March 3, 2020

hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ is spoken by the Down River people’s of the Fraser Valley, including the Musqueam, Tsleil-Waututh, Kwikwetlem, Tsawwassen, Katzie, and Kwantlen Nations. In the Kwantlen Nation, the language is taught to Langley students by Aboriginal Language Teacher, Fern Gabriel — Sesmelot.

Language classes are hosted in Fort Langley Elementary and Dorothy Peacock Elementary.

In collaboration with Fern Gabriel and the Kwantlen Nation, the Langley School District is proud to host an online language learning resource for hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓.

The resource is used as a way to connect with students during social-distancing caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The resource can be found here: Learn hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓
